Robo Master Error message: "There is an error in the file contents."

This mesage means that your Robo Master software doesn't recognise/can't read the data in the template file; it can occur because:

  1. Some templates created with the new model CC200-20/latest software, the Craft Robo Pro, or the Wishblade, etc, will not open with the original blue lid model CC100-20, software version 1.2. There have been two different versions of the gsd format that Graphtec uses to store our template files, so this message pops up when you try to open templates created by other users in the newer software, and your old software doesn't recognise it. You won't have this problem with templates created with the old software, as this can be read by all versions.
  2. Some older saved Silhouette files may be encrypted (2007)
  3. Some recent Silhouette files may be in a newer gsd format (currently available AFAIK only with their version of the Robo Master software)
  4. It can also occur - according to the graphted User manual if "An error occurred when a DXF-format file was loaded. The file may not be a DXF file." I've not seen any occurrences/requests for help regarding this one.

Solutions:

  1. Craft Robo

If you are using version 1.2 of the Robomaster Software and blue lid machine model CC100-20: you need to either:

    • upgrade your software by downloading and installing software version 2.4 (or later). Go to the UK Crafty Club sign up (if you are not already a member) and download the latest software and install it. There are various other download sites that you can use if you are not UK based; see here for a list.
    • or: Download a small piece of conversion software called wish-away which you can get from ilovecraftrobo.com. Install this on your pc desktop and then drag the 'error' files onto the Wishaway icon and it will convert them for you. Please note that this will only convert new format files into the old version gsd format: it doesn't work the other way round and there is no need to do this as original format gsd file should work with all newer machines and the latest software.
  2. Silhouette (encrypted files) 2007

Based on a post by KarinvdB (posted on UKS July 2007)
The templates supplied by QuicKutz are encrypted, and it appears that any gsd files created and saved by owners using the software current at July 2007 also ended up encrypted, and would generate this error message.

It is possible to create a link to the un-protected version of Robo Master and use this version for user created files:

    1. Right-click on your desktop
    2. Select "New" and then "Shortcut"
    3. When the shortcut wizard comes up, click on Browse
    4. Find the following path: My Computer > C: > Program Files > ROBO Master
    5. In the ROBO Master directory, select the "RMaster" program and click on "OK"
    6. Once back at the shortcut wizard window, click on "Next"
    7. Name your shortcut as desired
    8. Run the ROBO Master program from this alternate location
  3. Silhouette (new format gsd files) 2008

Since this gsd version is accessible only to the current Silhoutte version of the Robo Master software, the only solution at the moment for Silhouette users who wish to share files, would be to revert where possibe to a previous version of the software, which uses the universally readable gsd format; or to run this in conjunction with the current version.

  4. DXF files

Again from the Graphtec Robo Master User Manual:
"Load the DXF file using the software with which it was created, and check the data."

Robo Master Error message: "This new version. This file cannot be read by this software"

Robo Master cannot read the file and believes it to have been made with a newer version.

Solution:

Upgrade your software!

Robo Master Error message: "This file is outside the range of paper size which can be drawn up."

This is a problem that occurs in some versions of the Robo Master software - there is a little bug in it, which means it will not read any file that doesn't correspond to the default ISO A4 paper size.

Solution:

Uninstall your software and reinstall it, and when you are asked the question "Does your Robo have a barcode?" reply "yes" even though there may not be one on your machine, and this will load slightly different settings which should allow you to open up problem the templates.

Robo Master Error message: "Craft Robo Controller Startup Failure"

Your Craft Robo is not able to communicate with the Controller when attempting to cut a template.

Solution:

First, it's worth double checking that all your cables are connected properly!

Next try re-booting your computer, and if this doesn't work, re-install your Robo software.

Reinstalling:

I would suggest that you uninstall, shutdown your computer, then do a conplete re-installation. Install either from your original CD, or from any later software downloads you may have.

Follow the correct installation sequence, and any prompts or instructions the installation procedure requires:

For Vista

You do need to ensure you have the updated software with the Vista drivers.

First try opting to run the program as administrator, and if this does not work, follow the re-installation route.
